A fixed split air-conditioning system normally has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit connected by refrigerant pipework, electrical cabling and a condensate drain. Careful planning is what makes the finished installation neat, efficient and suitable for the way you use the room.
Before installation
1. Understanding your requirements
The process starts with the rooms you want to heat or cool, their approximate dimensions, how many people use them and whether the project is for a home or business.
2. Assessing the property
The installer considers room layout, glazing, likely heat gain, suitable wall space, outdoor-unit positioning, access and possible pipe routes. Photographs may help at the enquiry stage, but a site assessment can be needed before the design is finalised.
3. Selecting the system
The recommended output and system arrangement should match the property. A single room may suit one indoor and one outdoor unit, while several rooms may call for multiple systems or a multi-split design.
What happens during installation?
- The indoor unit is positioned. Its location should support effective airflow while giving a tidy finish and practical access for future servicing.
- The outdoor unit is located. It needs adequate airflow, a secure base or brackets and a position that takes account of access and neighbouring properties.
- The units are connected. The engineer installs the required pipework, drainage and electrical connections using the planned route.
- The system is tested. Connections, drainage, controls, heating and cooling operation are checked before handover.
- You are shown how to use it. The controls, temperature settings, modes and basic filter care should be explained.
How long will it take?
The time depends on the number of indoor units, access, pipe runs, electrical work and the complexity of the property. A straightforward single-room project will usually require less time than a multi-room or commercial installation. Your quotation should explain the expected programme.
